       Fred H. Felberg, JPL's associate director for institutional affairs, will retire July 31, 1987, JPL Director Dr. Lew Allen has announced.

       Felberg has held his current position since 1981, managing high-level administrative and technical affairs for the Laboratory.

       Felberg's career with Caltech began in 1942 as lecturer in aeronautics and associate director of the Southern California Cooperative Wind Tunnel at the campus. Transferring to JPL in 1960, Felberg was appointed assistant Laboratory director for plans and programs. He also served as chief of the engineering mechanics division and as assistant Laboratory director for technical divisions.

       Felberg was born in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1920. He attended high school in Monrovia and received B.S. in mechanical engineering from Caltech in 1942 and an M.S. in aeronautics from Caltech in 1945.

       He is member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, member and past president of the Pasadena Rotary Club, member of the board of directors of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and member of the Pasadena Breakfast Forum. He also serves as director of the Parsons Corporation and as director of the La Vina Hospital. He resides in Altadena, Calif., with his wife, Jean, and son, Eric.
