Welcome to the Federal Railroad Administration web site for preschool through high school. Our goal is to help K-12 students learn about trains and railroading. The railroad industry today is growing. There are more trains, and the companies are looking for qualified personnel. This trend should continue into the foreseeable future.
The American public must become more aware of trains and railroads than it was a few decades ago. Identifying railroad items, safety issues, and employment possibilities must be learned as soon as possible.
The following program provides teachers and personnel with a ready-made kit to both teach and entertain even the youngest children about railroads. The various screens can be easily made into transparencies or paper copies. Questions are for class discussion, but they also readily lend themselves to a type of "quiz," should that be desired. If one program is beyond the ability of one or a group of students, the instructor can refer to a preceding program, or go back and forth as necessary. Indeed, it is a great educational program which helps prepare youngsters for the future and may even save their lives.
Given the limitations of some school computer hardware, the line drawings appear quickly and, thereby, can keep a child's attention.
