Information about Premature Posting of PPI Data on September 18, 2007

On September 18, 2007, Producer Price Index (PPI) commodities indexes that were embargoed until 8:30 a.m. were prematurely posted to the BLS Web site at 7:27 a.m. The error was detected and all data were removed by 8:05 a.m. BLS has found and corrected the flaw in its procedures that led to this early data release. In addition, BLS is conducting a comprehensive internal audit of all systems and procedures, across all BLS programs, that play a role in the release of data to the public.
