Director's Postdoctoral Fellowships


Candidates for the Director's Postdoctoral Fellowships are selected based on their research and academic accomplishments, and the strength of their research proposal. They will collaborate with ANL scientists and engineers on existing programs and on new initiatives. All applicants must identify an ANL employee (sponsor) who will write the nomination memo and present your case in front of the Postdoctoral Committee. The sponsor could be someone who is already familiar with your research work and accomplishments through previous collaborations or professional societies. The candidates' application packages are reviewed by the Postdoctoral Committee and are considered three times per year. Deadlines are February 5, June 2, and October 6, 2008. Fellowships are awarded for a one-year term, with possible renewal for second year.

Candidate Eligibility:

PhD requirements have to be completed by commencement of appointment. Candidates must have received their PhD recently.


Application Package must include:

  • Nomination memo (≤ 2 pages) from ANL sponsor (with copy to Division Director)
  • Research proposal (≤ 2 pages)
  • Three letters of recommendation from other than Argonne staff
  • CV
  • List of publications, abstracts and significant presentations
  • Graduate School and Undergraduate Transcripts

  • Charles David Martin, Ph.D., State University of New York at Stony Brook. Martin joined the X-Ray Research Division in July.
  • Phay Ho, PhD., University of Rochester, New York. Ho joined the Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division in October.
  • Elizabeth McCutchan, PhD., Yale University, New Haven, CT. McCutchan joined the Physics Division in November.
  • Gergely Gidofalvi, PhD., University of Chicago. Gidofalvi joined the Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division in November.
  • Serguei Antipov, PhD., Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. Antipov joined the High Energy Physics Division in December.
  • Jay Hubisz, Ph.D., Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Hubisz joined the High Energy Physics Division in January 2008.
  • Elizabeth Mader, PhD., University of Washington, Seattle. Mader joined the Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division in February 2008.
