Coast Survey Schooner EXPERIMENT. In service 1835-1839.
Sounding boat

Schooner, length 90 feet, beam 21.5 feet, draft 6.1 feet. Built in 1831 at the Washington Navy Yard, Washington, D.C. Acquired from the Navy in 1835 and worked in Long Island Sound from 1835-38. This ship and the schooner JERSEY were the first two major vessels acquired for the use of the Coast Survey. 1835-38. Returned to Navy in 1839.
