International Emergency & Refugee Health Branch

    Refugee Camp

Most of NCEH/ATSDR's work in response to international emergencies takes place under the aegis of the International Emergency and Refugee Health Branch. This group is responsible for coordinating, supervising and monitoring CDC’s response to complex humanitiarian emergencies. NCEH/ATSDR is able to deploy multi-disciplinary technical teams to address situations involving refugees and internally displaced populations, war-related injuries, and international emergency management preparedness.

In addition to response missions, the branch provides technical assistance (such as program evaluation and training) to partners such as governments, non-governmental associations, and multilateral organizations. The group also develops guidelines on general response and in key technical areas including nutrition; HIV/AIDS; water and sanitation, injuries related to landmines and unexploded ordnance; sexual violence; reproductive health, and mental health.

These activities are worldwide, but the majority presently take place in Africa, Latin America, and Asia.
