Process Change Research

Researchers involved in the Process Change area of the High Performance Buildings Initiative (HPBi) investigate whole-building design principles and techniques to evaluate and improve actual building performance to reach a target goal of 50% reduction in energy cost from ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2001. Researchers in this area also work with the building community to transform the methods used to design, build, and operate buildings. The emphasis is on changing process, integrating existing technologies, and evaluating the overall energy use of commercial buildings. The HPBi team accomplishes this goal by participating in technology workshops and design charrettes and by conducting research analysis in support of specific commercial building projects. Laboratory teams provide research-level design support to integrate technologies well beyond conventional practice.
