Brief Description:	To establish, train and maintain a group of interested Newport citizens in the basic FEMA CERT program. To exercise this group with City of Newport Emergency Departments (Fire,Police,EMS,EMA) and related State Emergency teams(RI EMA, RIDOH, Hospital Assoc of RI, RIMH, etc)and the not-for-profit agencies involved in disaster work (American Red Cross, VOAD, Salvation Army, etc). To give advanced training to those interested CERT members, giving them key positions within the Newport CERT program allowing them to have input for the continuation of the program. To equip the CERT team with items necessary to accomplish the tasks as outlined by the Newport EMA in a safe and efficient manner. To offer mutual aid to neighboring communities that are also involved with the CERT program. To insure that the CERT program adheres to the ICS and NIMS. The Newport CERT will be involved with large events where the resources of paid emergency staff are maximized. This will include but not be limited to: Tall Ships & other public events, parades, hurricane shelter operations, after severe storms for clean up or street closures and whatever function the Newport EMA might deem appropriate.
