Brief Description: The Bentonville Fire Department is dedicated to assisting our citizens and those who work in our community to develop the knowledge and skills to better help themselves if ever our emergency resources are overwhelmed in their time of need. The course is being offered at no charge to the public at this time. The fire department is seeking participants from business and industry, in Bentonville, as well as schools, local government, churches, the medical community, and neighborhoods. Each class will be limited to 25 students. Classes will be held one day a week for four hours each day for six to seven weeks. Graduates receive a CERT helmet, vest, and eye protection at the graduation ceremony, and are asked to help carry the program to the community by organizing a team or teams in their particular areas of concern. It is planned that two courses a year be offered at the fire department. We encourage members of our community to take advantage of this opportunity by signing up and joining us for a fun learning experience.

Brief Description: The Rogers Fire Department is offering Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training. The course is designed to teach individuals how to take care of themselves and others in case of natural or manmade disasters that may overwhelm local emergency resources. The course will cover administering first aid to the injured, light search and rescue, preparing for disasters, basic fire fighting, disaster psychology and team organization. The course will be taught by members of the Rogers Fire Department who have training in CERT concepts from the Benton County (Arkansas) Department of Emergency Management. Classes will be open to the public and will meet one night a week for 3 hours for a period of 7-8 weeks. Instruction will be in accordance with established FEMA guidelines. Students can expect a mix of classroom instruction as well as cognitive instruction. The class will end with a final disaster simulation in which the students will manage a mock disaster in its entirety.

Brief Description: Disaster prepareness for citizens (CERT) training is conducted at MidSouth Community College. Contact MSCC at 870-733-6776 to register. This program is designed to teach non emergency workers (citizens) how to survive for the first 72 hours after a disaster. Each particpate learns how to prepare for disaters, extinguish small fires, provide basic life saving first aid and triage management techniques, light search and rescue, and coping with psychological concerns. This program requires particpates to complete classroom work along with a "hands-on" simulated disaster. Anyone 18 years old can participate.

Brief Description: The first CERT class graduated February 21, 2004. Twenty Six members/volunteers of the community make up our CERT Team. These members are trained and currently receiving additional training to help protect our citizens. The OEM will retain authority for the program but the CERT team has officers that will help oversee and educate the team. This CERT team will play a important role in our community with planning and assistance during times of need.

Brief Description: Our first class graduated April 21, 2003. Fifteen members of the community took the FEMA based training. We are now seeking applicants for another class to start possibly in August. Each member received a backpack full of emergency equipment upon graduation. All that took the class felt that it would be very beneficial to them and their community in times of disasters.

Brief Description: Tonight will be our first class in the CERT program. We educated two fine citizens of our county in CERT train the trainer to teach the program. OEM will retain authority for the program but we have appointed a program coordinator who will oversee the program and educate our citizens. We plan on having a local coordinator in each city in our county. We have purchased 1 trailer and equiped it with emergency equipment/medical equipment and if we receive another grant we plan on purchasing another trailer so we can locate it in the northern section of the county. We are very excited to see how many citizens show up tonight...wish us luck.

Brief Description: Our first class primarily encompassed training industrial people for a catastrophic tornado event. Secondary we cover flooding and lastly, earthquakes-the last two briefly. This program is what every community needs to prepare themselves for threats specific to their region. Catastrophic events when the infrastructure is impacted beyond capacity are what this program is all about. Departments can use this program to establish relationships in their community that money cannot buy.

Brief Description: We have trained 22 students using FEMA based CERT material. The goal is to have a campus response team to assist local responders during an on campus incident. Each graduate is given a CERT backpack with emergency equipment. We also supplement the pack with additional equipment. The students are very enthusiastic about CERT and it has spurred their interest in further training.

Brief Description: Little Rock just began our CERT program in the summer of 2004. We expect to hold several classes over the fall and winter in order to provide a trained cadre of citizens who can assist their own neighborhoods and community in the event of a disaster or serious incident.

Brief Description: The CERT team will be assembled and function with the Washington County Search and Rescue Team operated under the auspices of the Washington County Sheriff's Department. The Team is comprised of three (3) distinct training units: K-9 Unit, Mounted Unit (horse and mule) and Ground Unit. The Team is also supported by a Logistics Unit, which offers support through radio, computer and other technologies. Many members train to participate with more than one unit and all members respond to emergency missions, regardless of their individual specialties. The Team has training in wilderness search & rescue, urban search & rescue, mounted search & rescue, cave rescue, and high angle rescue. All members have CPR and basic first aid; many members have advanced medical training. The Team is a member of the National Association for Search and Rescue ("NASAR"); members receive search and rescue training and certifications through NASAR and have three NASAR instructors/coordinators on the Team. The Team also receives training through the National Cave Rescue Commission, the National Speleological Society, the Wilderness Medical Institute, the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, Rescue III International, Department of Emergency Management and other emergency response agencies. The Team sponsors and promotes a preventive search & rescue program for 5-12 year old children, "Lost in the Woods." Team members conduct the free, interactive programs for schools, scouts, youth groups and churches. The Team also sponsors a "train the trainer" program for educators, scout leaders and other adults interested in presenting the educational program to elementary aged children. The Team also participates in "Safety Day" at the University of Arkansas and with Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse. Each year, "Lost in the Woods" reaches hundreds of children in Northwest Arkansas. Team members also teach and promote the "Seven Principles of Leave No Trace" in conjunction with the National Outdoor Leadership School and Leave No Trace, Inc. Members respond primarily to emergency situations in Washington County but also respond in Benton, Carroll, Crawford, Madison, Newton, and Franklin counties, and in Missouri and Oklahoma.
