Developmental Center Libraries
The Department of Developmental Services maintains four libraries specializing in information on all aspects of developmental disabilities. The libraries are members of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine and maintain a combined book collection of over 18,000 volumes, 273 journal titles, and 729 videos. Each library also maintains unique collections designed to meet the needs of their individual centers. (see Listing of Journals and Other Periodicals)
The libraries are located in the developmental centers and are a valuable resource for the department's staff, consumers, families, community service providers, and the general public. The libraries are open to all and reference assistance is available by telephone, e-mail or in person, and may consist of general assistance in the use of the library, literature searches, and the answering of reference questions. Only state employees can borrow material directly from the libraries but non-state employees may borrow material through their local public library on interlibrary loan.
