Operation Lifesaver’s (OL) training video for young drivers, Look to Live, received recognition from among 14,000 entries at the recent 2008 Telly Awards, earning a Silver award, the top award, in the safety film/video category and a Bronze award for outstanding achievement in Video Editing.
Look to Live, a fast-paced video, incorporates six on-the-road scenarios to carry a public education message about highway-rail grade crossing safety. Dr. Todd Thoma, a NHTSA fellow and Level 1 Trauma Center director, explains what happens in a vehicle-train crash.
The target audience is 6 million 16-year-olds; only half of this group currently receives any driver education training. OL now reaches 200,000 through safety presentations to driver education classes, but seeks to expand this audience through YouTube and an interactive learning tool.
