This program can be duplicated through out the Federal government to enhance the development of future Professional Personal Property workforce. 2006 - Hurricane Help for Schools - Furniture for Schools Project was created to assist schools devastated by the hurricanes that destructed the Gulf States. What began as a one-time initiative between the U.S. Department of Educations New England Regional Representatives Office and the General Services Administrations Mid-Atlantic Property Management Office to provide surplus student desks to impacted schools, resulted in a unique inter-agency task force between four federal agencies led by the U.S. Department of Education and the General Services Administration. For more information, contact Joseph Hvorecky (215) 446-5060. 2005 - Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (ATF), Surplus Vehicle Sales Program. The ATF has gained tangible, measurable results since the expedient sale of vehicles has saved the federal government an average of $460,350 per month in depreciation losses, as well as an insurmountable amount in monthly storage fees. Losses that result from storage related problems or vandalism are no longer an issue. For more information, contact Michael Clay at (202) 927-8767. 2004 - 2004 GSAXcess® is the new FSS electronic government application to assist federal agencies and other authorized activities in meeting the statutory requirements for reporting and reutilizing excess, surplus, and exchange/sale property. It was implemented by the Federal Supply Service (FSS) on November 3, 2003. As a new Web interface to the Federal Disposal System (FEDS), GSAXcess® provides an improved electronic means for customers to report property they no longer require, screen and request property for acquisition through transfer or donation, submit ongoing needs, and report summary data as required. Agencies can access GSAXcess® much more easily on the Internet at: www.gsaxcess.gov. 2003 - U.S. Department of Agriculture. The USDA Forest Service Fire and Aviation Management, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters, has created an automated property management system that provides full accountability and management functions for property acquired through the Federal Excess Personal Property (FEPP) program. This system, the Federal Excess Property Management Information System (FEPMIS), allows property managers at both state and federal levels to automate all aspects of property management, from acquisition through disposal. It prevents property from getting "lost" in the paperwork shuffle, allows single-time entry of all data, and provides an audit trail for all property transactions. 2001 - U.S. Social Security Administration's Office of Property Management. The Social Security Administration was challenged by the project of replacing more than 40,000 computer workstations over a period of just 4 months at 200 nationwide sites. This was the largest project of this type ever undertaken by the SSA, particularly in light of the short implementation timeframes and logistical complexity. The excess computers were to be provided to educational institutions through the Computers for Learning program under the Executive Order 12999. 2000 - U.S. Social Security Administration. Their award winning entry was an agency property inventory, reporting and accounting system created to assist in a major computer workstation replacement project. 1999 - GSA's Energy Asset Disposal System (EADS). This personal property screening system was designed, developed and implemented by the GSA Federal Supply Service, Office of Transportation and Property Management for the Department of Energy; the system enhances the Department of Energy's ability to use automation to support the reused of their excess personal property assets. 1998 - DoD's Defense Reutilization and Marketing Services (DRMS) web page. This web page makes property data available 24 hours a day. It includes the entire worldwide inventory and allows customers to order specific items.
