March 2, 1999: As part of the Office of Personnel Managements commitment to a family friendly work environment, the agency formally opened the door of the new Family-Friendly Workplace Advocacy Office on March 1. The Advocacy Office provides employees information on family-friendly programs such as alternative work schedules, telecommuting, child care and elder care. In addition, it continues the work of the Work/Life Programs Center, established in 1992, by providing assistance to federal agencies on establishing or improving comprehensive family-friendly programs.
