Tyndall Air Force Base's beaches provide suitable nesting habitat for the endangered loggerhead turtle. This project is designed to determine and develop the optimum environment to reduce and/or eliminate hatching turtle's disorientation from nets on these beaches. The Air Force, in cooperation with the State of Florida, the Nature Conservancy and the other Coastal America partners are collaborating on this project, which addresses both a compliance issue and the Air Force's environmental policy of protecting the environment and enhancing the country's natural resources, including its coastal resource, in cooperation with local community interest.
The project will determine and develop the optimum lighting environment for the desired sea turtle orientation.
