By Air

To get to Ann Arbor, you will fly into Detroit Metropolitan Airport, just 27 miles from GLERL via I-94 and U.S. 23. From Metropolitan Airport, you have the following options:

By Auto

From DETROIT, MICHIGAN (about 45 miles), or Detroit Metropolitan Airport (about 27 miles): Take I-94 West to U.S. 23 North. Take US 23 North about 6 miles to Exit 41, Plymouth Road. Travel west on Plymouth Road to Commonwealth Blvd.

From LANSING, MICHIGAN (about 60 miles): take I-96 East to US 23 South at Brighton. Take US 23 South and when you get to Ann Arbor, follow the signs for Toledo, Ohio (US 23 South merges with M-14 East for a short distance and then splits and turns south again). Take Exit 41, Plymouth Road. Travel west on Plymouth Road to Commonwealth Blvd.

From TOLEDO, OHIO (about 55 miles): take US 23 North to Ann Arbor. Take Exit 41 - Plymouth Road. Travel west on Plymouth Road to Commonwealth Blvd.

GLERL is located just west of Exit 41 (Plymouth Road) off U.S. 23. At the exit, go west on Plymouth Road about 1/4 mile to the intersection with Green Road (traffic light). Continue west on Plymouth Road another 1/4 mile to Commonwealth Boulevard, which is just beyond the Carson's American Bistro. Turn right (north); GLERL is the third building on the left - red brick with blue trim. Park anywhere except in the specially marked spots. See map above. GLERL is found in the NE corner of the map.

By Train

See the Amtrak midwest destinations page for regional train routes, schedules and information. To reach GLERL from the Ann Arbor Amtrak station at 325 Depot St:

Make a left from Depot St. to N 5th Ave. until you reach E Summit St.
Turn left and travel east until you reach Beakes St, which then becomes Broadway St. and then becomes Plymouth Rd.
Continue east 2.6 miles on Plymouth Rd until you reach Commonwealth Blvd.
Turn left and travel north on Commonwealth Blvd until you reach GLERL.

How do I get to downtown Ann Arbor from GLERL? (click for map)

From the intersection of Plymouth and Green roads, go west on Plymouth Rd. After six or seven traffic signals, you'll cross a bridge over the Amtrak tracks and a few hundred feet past the bridge you'll come to a yellow blinking caution signal at Fifth Ave. Turn left and start exploring - this is the northern edge of downtown. Once you're on Fifth Ave, you need to go past Huron Street to be in the "main" part of downtown. The University of Michigan main campus borders State Street on the east side of downtown, about four blocks east of Fifth Ave. Some downtown streets are two-way and others are one-way, so be alert.

When you want to return to the vicinity of GLERL, you'll need to find Division Street, which is one-way to the north and becomes Plymouth Road on the other side of the Amtrak bridge.
