No information is currently available on the population structure, density and genetic variability of black bears in the swamps and Pocosin habitats of eastern North Carolina. The project is designed to determine the relative distribution, demographics, mortality rates, recruitment rates, and habitat preferences of black bears on Dare County AFR and the surrounding Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge.
