Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs)
  • Energy-efficiency criteria are based on input wattage, lamp efficacy (lumens per watt), lumen maintenance and average rated lifetimes. To qualify for ENERGY STAR, CFLs must have a minimum rated lifetime of 6,000 hours or greater; the current average rated lifetime for ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs is 8,000 hours.
  • On average, ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs use 75% less energy than a standard incandescent bulb and can last up to 10 times longer.
  • Must also comply with power and operating characteristics, and meet safety and reliability guidelines.

ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs and lamp systems shall comply as applicable with the labeling requirements of the US Federal Trade Commission and the EMI requirements of the US Federal Communications Commission.
