Other (describe)
Air Force actions and previous uses in the BAFB area have resulted in degradation of the shoreline and adjacent harbor areas. The vegetation along the shoreline of BAFB exists for landscape purposes. Although some indigenous species of mature oak trees can be found in areas of the base, these trees have been planted. The only common species of fish and wildlife exist within the fence line and along the shoreline of the base. The project will clean up 6,000 feet of shoreline by clearing away old stumps, roots, concrete rubble, and other debris; repairing broken and/or collapsed storm drains and outfalls; and conducting the excavation for and the placement of geofabrics, storm rip rap and earthworks to repair the shoreline, thus preventing additional sedimentation into the river.
Prevention of habitat degradation and loss and nonpoint source pollution. Project will protect the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay from further deterioration by stabilizing the shoreline, thus reducing/eliminating erosion and protecting marine habitat from sedimentation damage.
