European Commissioner Bolkestein and SEC Chairman Pitt Meet

Washington, D.C., May 29, 2002 -- Frederik Bolkestein, European Commissioner for the Internal Market for Taxation and Customs Union, and Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Harvey L. Pitt met Tuesday, May 28, at the SEC Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The conversation centered on regulatory issues raised by the cross-border activities of issuers, firms and markets in the United States and the European Union. Afterward, Commissioner Bolkestein and Chairman Pitt issued the following statement:
