MCPO Holmdahl assumed the duties of Reserve Command Master
Chief in November of 2004.MCPO Holmdahl after graduation from Dublin High
School enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard on 11 JUL 76. He attended Boot Camp
at TRACEN Alameda and graduated with Company Oscar-Golf 108. MCPO Holmdahl
attended SM A and QM A school in Orlando Fl. And upon graduation was assigned
to the USCGC Sweetgum in Mayport FL. MCPO Holmdahl was transferred to the
USCGC Burton Island for Deep Freeze ’78 and transferred to TRACEN
Alameda as a Recruit Instructor after the decommissioning of the Burton
Island, where he taught Seamanship, Damage Control, Fire Fighting, First
Aid, and General Military indoctrination. In January of 1981 MCPO Holmdahl
left the active duty Coast Guard to pursue a career in Fire Fighting. He
attended Chabot College in Hayward California while assigned as Assistant
Training Officer at CGRU Yerba Buena Island III. In 1984 He was assigned
as First Lieutenant onboard the USCGC Pt. Heyer reserve crew. In 1986 He
transferred to the USCGC Cape Romain as the Reserve XPO. In 1989 after decommissioning
of the Cape Romain , he took the assignment of reserve XPO on the Pt. Brower.
1991 MCPO transferred to CGRU MLB Station Golden Gate as XPO. In July 1992
MCPO Holmdahl was assigned as Officer in Charge of CGRU Station Rio Vista
. In 1995 after a successful 21/2-year tour CGRU Rio Vista was disestablished
as the first PACAREA unit to fully integrate into team Coast Guard and the
Active Duty. MCPO Holmdahl was assigned to PSU 311 Boat Division. In OCT
2001 MCPO was transferred to Pacific Area Operation where he worked PSU
and Expeditionary Warfare issues.He is a graduate of the Chief Petty Officers
Academy Reserve Class VI, JUL 98.
MCPO Holmdahl awards include 2 Coast Guard Commendation
Medals with “O” device, Coast Guard Achievement Medal with “O”
device, 3 Commandants Letters of Commendation ribbons with “O”
device, DOT Outstanding Unit Award, Coast Guard Unit Commendation ribbon
with “O” device, 3 Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation
ribbons with “O” device, 4 Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation
ribbons with “O” device Coast Guard Bicentennial ribbon, Coast
Guard Good conduct Medal, 5 Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Medals, Antarctic
Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, 2 Special Operations ribbons,
Armed Forces Reserve Medal with silver hour glass “M” and “2”,
Coast Guard Expert Rifle, and Coast Guard Expert Pistol. He has earned the
Surface Operations, Coxswain, and Port Security Unit breast insignias. He
was the first Reservist to be certified by the Active Duty Eleventh District
OINC Board as a qualified OINC “Multi Mission Ashore”. MCPO
Holmdahl received the U.S. Navy League Oakland Chapter’s “Reservist
of the Year” in 1984, and again in 1989.
