Coloradans Urged to Plan Ahead To Avoid a DUI Over the Holidays

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), CSP, MillerCoors and RTD have teamed up to help Coloradans stay safe by planning ahead. A new Web site, www.PlanAheadColorado.com offers Front Range residents numerous tools and information to help them enjoy the holidays responsibly including: a list of businesses offering $5 taxi vouchers to customers, options for overnight parking, RTD Park and Ride locations, information regarding free RTD rides on New Year’s Eve, and holiday party tips to ensure guests’ safety.
“Remind your designated driver that it's a fast-paced environment on our highways today and things happen quickly,” said Trostel. “In a split second you don't have time to react. So, don't drive distracted and slow down. The faster you're going, the greater your chance that there's going to be injuries... if not death."
In December 2007, 32 people died in traffic crashes and 11 of those fatalities involved alcohol.

Colorado State Patrol Announces
New Lieutentant Colonel and Major |
December 29, 2008 - Today the Colorado State Patrol gathered at the Denver West Holiday Inn to celebrate the promotion of two members.
To fill a vacancy left by the retirement of Lieutenant Colonel Rick Salas, Major Scott Hernandez was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, commander of the Specialized Services region. Additionally, Captain Lawrence Martin was promoted to Major of District 5, which is stationed in Durango. Photos from today's promotion can be viewed now on our Image Gallery, located here.

Colorado Mountain Express Donates $25,000
to Alive at 25 Teen Driving Program |
DENVER, CO (December 2008) – Colorado Mountain Express(CME) presented a $25,000 check to the Colorado State Patrol's award winning Alive At 25 teen driving safety program today to provide training and scholarships for Colorado's teen drivers. The presentation was made at the 4th annual CME Destinations West driver trade show held at The Lodge at Vail.
"One program that we are especially proud of is our continuing partnership with the Colorado State Patrol (CSP)," said Jay Ufer, President of CME. "As a part of our 25th Anniversary, we are delighted to make a contribution toward the CSP's s Alive at 25 program which is dedicated to saving young lives. CME's donation of $25,000 will help teach young drivers in high schools serving Aspen, Snowmass, Vail Valley and Summit County, as well as across the state, to make smart driving choices and be aware of many of the typical driving hazards facing young motorists today."

Colorado State Patrol Academy Welcomes 2008-2 Graduates |

December 12, 2008 the Colorado State Patrol Academy class of 2008-2 graduated with a ceremony at El Jabel Shrine in NW Denver.
30 successful graduates join the ranks of the Colorado State Patrol today and move on to the field training portion of the process, and will now be on the roads, protecting and serving the people of the state of Colorado.
The ceremony was a great celebration as Chief Mark Trostel encouraged the new Troopers to remember their training, including the tenets of the badge that they all wear over their hearts.

Colorado State Patrol Updates Minimum Qualifiers for Hiring Standards

DENVER, CO (October 1, 2008) – The Colorado State Patrol Command Staff approved the new set of minimum standards for applicants that are now in effect. The minimum standards add text to policy regarding communication skills, background information, and other measurements to ensure that the people who apply to become Colorado State Patrol cadets are of the highest caliber.
