FEDERAL COURT PERMANENTLY BARS LOUISIANA MAN FROM PREPARING TAX RETURNS

Holden Man Allegedly Conducted Business As Former Irs Employee

WASHINGTON, D.C.-The Justice Department announced today that a federal court in Baton Rouge, Louisiana has permanently barred James E. Rosamond, of Holden, Louisiana from preparing tax returns for others and advising customers concerning federal taxes. In entering the order, Judge James J. Brady of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana also ordered Rosamond to provide the government with a list containing his customers’ names, mailing and e-mail addresses, and telephone and Social Security numbers.

According to court filings, Rosamond, who operated under the name “Taxes Done Rite,” prepared tax returns that claimed fraudulent refunds based on fictitious or inflated deductions, including fictitious or inflated medical and/or dental expenses, charitable contributions, unreimbursed employee business expenses, and other “miscellaneous” deductions. The government also alleged that Rosamond misled his customers into believing that he was a former IRS employee with special knowledge of available deductions that are not readily available to the general public.

“The Justice Department is working vigorously to stop the preparation and filing of the false or fraudulent returns that unfairly shift the tax burden to honest American taxpayers,” said Eileen J. O'Connor, Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department's Tax Division. “People who hire others to prepare their returns should review their returns carefully to make sure that they are true, correct, and complete.”

This suit is part of an ongoing Justice Department and IRS initiative to stop the promotion of tax schemes and scams, and the preparation and filing of fraudulent tax returns.
