FLETA Board Awards Five Accreditations in March
The Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board is pleased to announce it granted accreditation status to five training programs during its March 13, 2008 meeting held in Charleston, South Carolina. Among those accredited were the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’s (FLETC) Firearms Instructor Training Program and Uniformed Police Training Program; the Naval Criminal Investigative Services’ (NCIS) Protective Service Operations Training Program and Special Agent Basic Training Program; and the U.S. Coast Guard’s Radiation Detection Level II Operator’s Course.
Chairperson,
Sharon Henegan thanked the agencies involved in this achievement and applauded
them for their leadership, hard work, and provenance in accomplishing this
goal. Mrs. Henegan noted the Board’s goal is to improve the Law Enforcement
community with each accreditation and the Board has now awarded 34
accreditations. Upon receiving their twelfth
award of this status, FLETC Director, Connie Patrick, stated, “The
accreditation process promotes credibility in law enforcement training and
encourages agencies to work together in sharing their best practices. This process shows dedication to the training
and helps to ensure officers make it home at night.”
To
achieve accreditation, an agency must undergo a voluntary thorough assessment
of their academy and/or program to ensure compliance with the FLETA Standards. These professional standards were developed to
increase agency effectiveness and efficiency. The standards address the following areas: Academy Administration;
Qualifications and Development of Training Staff; Program Administration; and
Program and Curriculum Development. The
FLETA Board is nationally recognized by Congress, Federal Law Enforcement
agencies and stakeholders in law enforcement training.
To
maintain accredited status, agencies are required to submit annual reports to
the FLETA Board, and participate in a re-accreditation process every three
years. If you would like more
