Chunking Content (1 of 3)

An important thing to know about Web users (and one that may be obvious to you if you are a regular user of the Web) is that they do not like to read large, unedited blocks of text and often seek other sites where the content is more readable on their computer screen.

Chunking is the process of dividing up large portions of text into smaller portions that are easier to read, faster to download, and quicker to scan.

Chunking content breaks large portions of text into smaller, easier-to-read portions.

Web content experts used to advise that pages should not scroll because scrolling deters Web users. Yet this caveat becomes less important as more and more people get comfortable with the Web. As noted in a previous module a Web page is a scrolling experience, although users often don't scroll all the way through very long pages.

Keeping text in small, easily scanned blocks is still a very good idea and improves reader comprehension.
