College Drinking: Changing the Culture is the recipient of the National Association of Government Communicators (NAGC) 2007 Blue Pencil & Gold Screen Award of Excellence. This annual international awards program recognizes superior government communication products and their producers. It is the only national awards competition designed for goverment communicators. The NAGC is a not-for-profit professional organization for writers, editors, and public affairs specialists in local, state, and federal government.

College Drinking: Changing the Culture is the recipient of the World Wide Web Health Awards-Merit Award for Fall/Winter 2006. This award program gives a "seal of quality" for electronic health information by the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC), a national clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials.

College Drinking: Changing the Culture has won the 2005 Aesculapius Award of Excellence-World Wide Web Site. The annual award is named for the ancient Greek God of healing, Aesculapius, and is considered to be quite prestigious in the field of health Web sites. The award, given by the Health Improvement Institute, is intended to encourage and recognize excellence in communicating health information to the public.

The MarCom Creative Awards is an international competition for marketing and communication professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of marketing and communication programs and print, visual and audio materials. The Mission of the MarCom Creative Awards is to honor excellence and recognize the creativity and hard work of marketing and communications professionals.

Sponsored by spiderfood.net, the Spider Award is meant to recognize those web sites and individuals that achieve Top Ten ranking with the major search engines through ethical and professional search engine optimization strategies.

The World Wide Web Health Awards, which recognizes the best health-related Web sites for consumers and professionals twice a year, has given CollegeDrinkingPrevention.gov its Silver Award for Fall/Winter 2004. This award program gives a "seal of quality" for electronic health information by the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC), a national clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials. The site was awarded in the "Health Promotion/Disease & Injury Prevention Information" class for offering information to its audience of professionals as a government agency.

College Drinking: Changing the Culture received the Weekly Link Award November 21 - 27, 2004. The Weekly Link Award has been given every Sunday, since January 2002, to outstanding Web sites of the Linksgiving.com's collection that distinguish themselves for originality of concept, easiness of navigation, pleasant design, clarity and completeness of information, browser-independent accessibility, and that give visitors the sensation to really have found what they are looking for, make them feel at home and want to come back again, give a considerable contribution to the Internet community.

College Drinking: Changing the Culture has been awarded the College Parent Magazine Seal of Approval and is being featured in their magazine as a special resource on campus life issues. College Parent Magazine is dedicated to enhancing the higher education experience of parents with students currently attending or preparing for college by providing a source of complete, authoritative and easy to use college-related information. Sites chosen to bear their Seal of Approval only after meeting the College Parent Magazine's tough editorial, design, functionality, and relevancy criteria.


College Drinking: Changing the Culture has won the "2003-2004 Golden Web Award" from the Internet Association of Webmasters and Designers in recognition of creativity, integrity and excellence on the Web.


College Drinking: Changing the Culture has won the 2002 Aesculapius Award of Excellence-World Wide Web Site. The annual award is named for the ancient Greek God of healing, Aesculapius, and is considered to be quite prestigious in the field of health Web sites. This year marks the eleventh year of the annual awards competition. This award was established by the Health Improvement Institute, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization based in Bethesda, Maryland, to promote excellence in informing consumer lifestyle choices and health care decisions.



On November 21, 2002, College Drinking: Changing the Culture was highlighted by World Village as the Family Site of the Day. The Family Site of the Day was created to highlight other web sites that produce quality content appropriate for family viewing and participation.




CollegeDrinkingPrevention.gov has just received the Bronze Lone Star Design Award because it is an aesthetically pleasing, easy to navigate, well-designed, user-friendly Web site with informative and interactive content that shows excellent spelling and grammar.








Reviewed in May 2002, College Drinking: Changing the Culture has received a 4-star review from the Tufts University Child & Family WebGuide in their Health/Mental Health category, under drugs and alcohol. The Child & Family WebGuide describes and evaluates web sites that contain research-based information about child development. Sites awarded are selected from thousands of sites about children, based primarily on the quality of the information provided. The goal of the WebGuide is to give the public easy access to the best child development information on the Web.

The Washington, DC chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) has awarded the College Drinking: Changing the Culture site a 2002 Silver Inkwell award in the Electronic, Online, and Interactive Communication, Internet (World Wide Web) Site - nonprofit category. The site was chosen because it meets the highest of standards and is considered an outstanding example of communications excellence, as judged by peers from IABC chapters around the nation.

College Drinking: Changing the Culture Web site has been selected as a "Best Bet" on the USA TODAY Education Web site from July 2-8, 2002. Each week the USA TODAY Education online staff selects three "Best Bet" sites they feel would be of educational value to their audience of subscribers and guests. These sites are listed on the USA TODAY Education home page with a brief description and a link to the site. The site is honored as fewer than 150 sites are selected each year as USA TODAY Education "Best Bet" Web sites.

College Drinking: Changing the Culture has won the Advanced Programming Concepts Web Development Excellence Award! This award recognizes the advanced programming concepts used to create the site such as development in ASP.net, use of Access XP database and JavaScript for user controls, rotation of facts and policies using 'post-it notes', and the use of Flash to create a cool 'Interactive Body' and eCards in the Student section. This award certifies the site as a legitimate leader in web development excellence using advanced programming concepts in design, coding, or graphics.

The College Drinking Prevention Web site has been nominated for the Disability Network Outstanding Website Award for 2002. Their Staff has reviewed the Web site and finds it very informative and well done, with a clear reflection of dedication and hard work.






Award World Special Winner College Drinking Prevention is an Award World "Special Winner" and has just been added to their directory as a top resource for health and drug information.

The College Drinking Prevention site has been accepted into the Healthlinks.Net directory, the largest "Free" comprehensive online directory available specifically for the use of healthcare consumers and professionals on the Internet. Sites are selected based on meeting the following criterion: content of interest to healthcare professionals; tone and presentation maintained at a professional level; site structure, navigation and graphic design executed at a professional level; and a high level of integrity and credibility.

The site was picked as hot site of the week on April 13, 2002. The award recognized the site for its "Sections for parents, high school counselors, and students give the latest statistics and information about drinking and youth. For students, the materials are often interactive and show how alcohol affects different parts of the body, alcohol myths, and how much alcohol is costing you, in calories and in dollars. You can also enter information into online software that lets you look at how drinking behavior affects your BAC (Blood Alcohol Content)." Blue Web'n is a searchable library of about 1200 outstanding Internet learning sites categorized by subject area, audience, and type (lessons, activities, projects, resources, references, & tools).

The College Drinking Prevention site is "100% Safe" in compliance with the SafeSurf Rating Standard. The SafeSurf Rating Standard is a voluntary rating system designed to protect children, as well as the first amendment rights of their parents. It was developed with input from thousands of parents and Net citizens, worldwide.

Canada's Nu-Horizons Design Studio has awarded the site "Resource Award" based on its ease of navigation, obvious hard work, and entertaining content.

The site has qualified for the "Critical Mass Award" based on its excellent design, beautiful original graphics and artwork, great photos, and for providing visitors with content that is informative, entertaining, presented well and easy to access. The site is considered, "a worthy enterprise and a positive contribution to the Web."



The College Drinking Prevention site has just won the "Excellent Site Award" from Internet Tips. This award is given to great sites that load fast, use good navigation, offer good content with no broken links, and have good use of graphics and scripting.








The College Drinking Prevention site has just won the "Golden Web Award" from the Internet Association of Webmasters and Designers in recognition of creativity, integrity and excellence on the Web.




Personally approved by paramedics, the site has been praised as an "outstanding" resource, with good content and layout, by the Emergency Medical Services Index for 2002.



NEOVIZION Bronze Award Neovizion awarded the College Drinking Prevention site the Bronze Award for its creative design, layout, clear graphics, page download, user friendly interface, browser compatibility, overall professional appearance and originality.

Task Force Awards



The NIAAA Task Force on College Drinking received a "Green Light" award from the Automobile Club of New York, an affiliate of the Automobile Association of America. In citing the statistics outlined in the Task Force report, the club applauded NIAAA for "calling attention to this perennial tragedy."








The NIH Director's Award recognizes superior performance or special efforts significantly beyond the regular duty requirements, and directly related to fulfilling the mission of the National Institutes of Health. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism's College Team received this award for developing and implementing NIAAA's College Drinking Prevention Initiative, thus advancing underage drinking prevention. Team members include: Stephen Long, Fred Donodeo, Geoffrey Laredo, Gayle Boyd, Ph.D., Vivian Faden, Ph.D., Joan Romaine, Amy Matush, Kelly Green Kahn, Ann Bradley, Nancy Colladay, Tim Crilley, Kathryn Grady, Diane Miller, Roberta Wilhelm and John Bowersox.
