HOUSE  RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the department of design and construction of the city and county of honolulu to conduct a study on the repairing and repaving of surface streets along farrington highway in leeward oahu.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the poor condition of Honolulu's roadways has been widely criticized in recent years; and

 

     WHEREAS, many of Honolulu's streets have fallen into a state of disrepair, thereby presenting a safety risk to both motorists and pedestrians using these roads; and

 

     WHEREAS, the poor condition of these roads, including the  numerous potholes that line the streets of Honolulu, have  caused anguish to many of Hawaii's drivers and damage to their vehicles that ranges from simple alignment problems to more moderate, and sometimes severe, damage; and

 

     WHEREAS, while the City and County of Honolulu has made progress in addressing the conditions of the surface streets under their jurisdiction, and significantly reduced the backlog of much-needed street repairing and repaving, some areas of Oahu are still in need of remedial attention; and

 

     WHEREAS, Nanakuli, located on the Leeward Coast of Oahu, is one of the areas where repairing and repaving of surface streets is sorely needed; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, that the Department of Design and Construction (DDC) of the City and County of Honolulu is requested to conduct a study on the repairing and repaving of surface streets along Farrington Highway in Leeward Oahu that includes repaving

methods and materials, routine repair and maintenance scheduling, and schedules for complete repairing and repaving of roads; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that DDC submit a report of its findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2009; and


     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu and to the Director of the Department of Design and Construction.
