Anthrax is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis.
Although this rare disease is typically caused by contact with infected animals
or animal products, B. anthracis has also been used as a bioterrorist
weapon. Anthrax is not spread from person to person and can usually be treated
with antibiotics if diagnosed early.
