FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2000-93 Susan Nash Named Associate Director of the Division of Investment Management Washington, DC, July 7, 2000 -- Securities and Exchange Commission Director of Investment Management Paul F. Roye today named Susan Nash as Associate Director for Disclosure and Insurance Product Regulation. In her new position, Ms. Nash will be responsible for policy initiatives relating to disclosure by mutual funds and other investment companies, as well as the regulation of variable annuities and variable life insurance. SEC Chairman Levitt said, "Susan has outstanding judgment and dedication. I am delighted that we will continue to benefit from the breadth and depth of her knowledge and experience relating to the securities markets and the mutual fund and variable insurance industries." Paul F. Roye, Director of the Division of Investment Management, said, "Susan has made invaluable contributions on many of the most pressing policy issues confronting the mutual fund industry, and she has been instrumental in crafting effective and pragmatic regulatory approaches to the growing and dynamic variable insurance market. She brings tremendous energy, outstanding legal skills, and a wealth of experience to her new position." Ms. Nash joined the Commission's Office of General Counsel in 1989, where she played a key role in the Commission's program of technical assistance to emerging market countries and other international matters. She also served as counsel to former Chairman Richard C. Breeden. Since 1993, Ms. Nash has been a member of the Division of Investment Management, where she has had a major part in many important policy initiatives. Most recently, she played a lead role on the Commission's after-tax return proposal, mutual fund governance initiatives, and technology issues, as well as the Commission's examination of bonus variable annuity products. Prior to joining the Commission, Ms. Nash was an attorney specializing in tax, corporate, and securities law at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Covington & Burling. Ms. Nash holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School, an M.A. from the University of Chicago, and a B.A. from The University of Notre Dame. # # #
