FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2000-178 David Fielder Named Counsel to the Chairman Washington, DC, November 27, 2000 -- Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Arthur Levitt today named David Fielder Counsel to the Chairman. Mr. Fielder succeeds Estee Levine who was recently named Director of the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs. As Counsel to the Chairman, Mr. Fielder will advise the Chairman on investment management and corporation finance issues. Chairman Levitt said, "I am pleased to welcome Dave to my staff. His experience in the private sector and at the Commission will be a valuable resource. I look forward to his insightful counsel." Mr. Fielder joined the Commission's staff in February 1997 where he was a Senior Counsel in the Division of Enforcement. In February 1999, he moved to the Division of Investment Management, first as Senior Counsel on the Task Force for Adviser Regulation then as Advisor to the Director. Prior to joining the Commission, Mr. Fielder worked as a litigation associate at Kellogg, Huber, Hansen, Todd, and Evans in Washington, DC. Prior to that he served at the White House as Special Assistant Counsel to the President. Mr. Fielder, 35, earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, his M.S. from Pennsylvania State University, and his B.A. from Washington University. # # #
