Solar and Infrared Radiation Station (SIRS)

Instrument Categories: Radiometric

General Overview

Picture of the Solar Infrared Radiation Station (SIRS)

The Solar Infrared Radiation Station (SIRS) provides continuous measurements of broadband shortwave (solar) and longwave (atmospheric or infrared) irradiances for downwelling and upwelling components. These 1-minute data are collected from a network of stations to help determine the total energy exchange within the Southern Great Plains site.

Note: The current SIRS instrument suite was preceeded by the ARM operational broadband instrument suite and by the Solar and Infrared Radiation Observation Station (SIROS) instrument suite, which included the MFRSR. The change to SIRS occurred in 1997-1998.

Primary Measurements Taken

The following measurements are those considered scientifically relevant. Refer to the netCDF File Header Descriptions (Data Object Design Files) for the list of all available measurements, including those recorded for diagnostic or quality assurance purposes.
