Council Description
The Utah Citizens Corps Council is the State component of the USA Freedom Corps, established by President George W. Bush, that encompasses public education, training, and volunteer opportunities to engage all citizens in making their communities safer, stronger, and better prepared for preventing, preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies and disasters of all types, including natural and technological disasters and acts of terrorism. Our goal is twofold: 1)To bring together State and local public officials, Emergency Managers, First Responders, governmental agencies, and leaders and stakeholders from business, civic, community, faith-based and volunteer organizations that are involved in and/or concerned about Community Disaster Preparedness, to make Utah safer, stronger, and better prepared to be both disaster resistant and disaster resilient. 2)To educate, prepare, and train the citizens of Utah concerning the importance of personal preparedness, and personal responsibility as well as community responsibility by becoming involved in making Utah safer, stronger, and better prepared by volunteering with their local Citizen Corps Council and/or its Pillar Programs: Neighborhood Watch, Fire Corps, Volunteers in Police Service, Medical Reserve Corps, and Community Emergency Response Team.
