Council Description
The St. Mary's County Citizen Corps Council was formed in June 2005. The Council will provide citizens of the County with the skills and knowledge to help their families and neighbors prepare for and respond to emergencies. The trained volunteers will assist first responders during emergencies. In 95% of all emergencies, it is either the victim or a bystander who provides the first, immediate assistance at the scene. Together, the Council members will develop the Citizen Corps strategy to form a connection between citizens and local emergency responders. This connection involves every citizen in making their family and community safe. It also provides each citizen with resources and knowledge which will automatically be accessed in the event of an emergency.
