To whom it may concern,

Hello, Im Norene Otnes, Community Family Service Worker II, JMC- SEARHC Behavioral Health Department, and planning committee member for One Heart Creations with hope and understanding. Sue and Roy Hempel, Grandparents of Morgan Fawcett (Strang), are the heart of this event. Morgan is a 15 year old musician, and a young person who was born with FASD. Please see his attached story. We are planning an event to raise community awareness and partnership in honor of the FASD International Awareness Day.

Morgan has a vision of supporting other FASD children who have been affected by this preventable disorder. Since he began on his path within the flute playing world, performers he has met have been impressed with his natural ability to play. He has progressed so naturally in the short year since he was given his first flute at age 14. Morgans wish is to come to Juneau, his place of birth and perform at a concert with Arvil Byrd, if funding permits. He also wishes to give the youth of Juneau what was gifted to him. The flute manufactures have donated 60 to 70 flutes for the young people who attend the concert. Our intention is to provide Morgan and his Grandparents the opportunity to give him a chance to fulfill his vision.

The first Annual Wellness Walk and FASD International Awareness Day kick off for the week will also include assemblies, workshops, and personal appearances throughout the community by Morgan Fawcett, his Grandparents, and Arvil Byrd.

Arvil Byrd, $1,500 per performance. See attached information.

Respectfully Yours,
One Heart Creations, Committee Members

Wellness Walk in focused on community wide residents who value wellness, and or are in recovery, the Education piece to this is that consuming alcohol and drugs during pregnancy is very harmful to the unborn fetus, we will focus on all ages and persons who are effected by FASD or family members who are supporting the growth of an FASD diagnosed family member. Treatment for mothers and their partners who are expecting have substance abuse treatment centers available for them during pregnancy. This event will bring awareness of the damage to the delicate fetus that is developing within the mother if she choses to consume substances which is prevention of FASD.

Addictions Counselor Day 2007
Description
Whereas, addiction counselors are uniquely qualified, frontline health care professionals who are indispensable in the process of guiding patients with addictive disorders to recovery;

Whereas, alcohol and drug disorders are a major public health problem that costs American society more than $300 billion each year, affecting millions of Americans of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds and in all communities through treatment, education, and prevention programs; and

Whereas, addictive disorders are a treatable disease and treatment of addiction is as successful as the treatment of other chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma; and

Whereas, tens of thousands of addiction-focused health care professionals have dedicated their lives to increasing awareness of alcohol and drug disorders and enhancing the care of individuals, families, and communities through treatment, education and prevention programs; and

Whereas, addiction counselors promote excellence in care by promoting the highest quality and most up-to-date, science-based services to our clients, our families and our communities;
