Recovery Month Kick-Off National Survey on Drug Abuse Release -- SAMHSA-Sponsored
Description
The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will unveil the results of the 2006 National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 6. The annual survey, formerly called the Household Survey is the largest of its kind, and is the governments primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco.

The release of the 2006 survey results is the keynote of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference marking a month long observance of the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers.

Whereas, addiction counselors are uniquely qualified, frontline health care professionals who are indispensable in the process of guiding patients with addictive disorders to recovery;

Whereas, alcohol and drug disorders are a major public health problem that costs American society more than $300 billion each year, affecting millions of Americans of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds and in all communities through treatment, education, and prevention programs; and

Whereas, addictive disorders are a treatable disease and treatment of addiction is as successful as the treatment of other chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma; and

The Winners Circle is an organized group of recovering offenders. The Winners Circle is to be a vehicle whereby peer support network groups and individuals may carry the message of recovery and change based on the frame of other support groups. The Winners Circle provides services for all who suffer from the disease of addiction, and thus providing the opportunity for members to provide intervention and prevention work necessary for continued sobriety. Texas Ride for Recovery
Description
On September 22nd the Freeman Center hosts its first ever public fundraiser the Texas Ride for Recovery. This is a Family Rally Celebration at Cameron Park East in Waco Texas with Musical Entertainment, Motorcycle Events, Childrens Activities, Merchandise Vendors, Food Court, Recovery Educational Exhibits and Speakers. The Texas Ride for Recovery is in concurrence with the National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month of September.

This event serves to educate the public on substance abuse as a national health crisis, in which addiction is treatable and that recovery is possible.
Join the scenic motorcycle ride through Central Texas back roads, the field games; shop the unique merchants wares, take in the fantastic musical and comedic entertainment, enjoy the Childrens Pavilion sponsored by Celebration Station and top it off with some great local Texas food vendors.
