Me, Me, Me. Self Portrait Art Exhibition

Words + Pictures
Description
Words + Pictures Exhibition. June 1 to Aug. 10, 2007

Meet the "Words+Pictures" artists at our Opening Reception.

Refuge invites you to an exhibition of visual art that incorporates both words+pictures. Artists often find themselves at a loss for words. Not these artists. Conversation is easy, but visual artists express themselves through drawing, painting, photography and sculpting. We challenged artists to incorporate words into their art. Join us to celebrate the results in this unique exhibition . Read the writing on the wall (and the art it appears within).

Central Illinois Recovery Coalition (CILRC) was founded in 2006 with 10-15 individuals concerned about problems with substance abuse in our state. Since its inception membership has more than doubled challenging the group to look at recovery and addictive behavior on a much wider scope.

CILRCs goals include advocating for all in recovery including those recovering from homelessness, substance abuse, incarceration, mental illness, and physical and sexual abuse. Our mission is to end discrimination, broaden social understanding and to achieve a just response from the community. We envision a community where everyone has a voice.

Addictions Counselor Day 2007
Description
Whereas, addiction counselors are uniquely qualified, frontline health care professionals who are indispensable in the process of guiding patients with addictive disorders to recovery;

Whereas, alcohol and drug disorders are a major public health problem that costs American society more than $300 billion each year, affecting millions of Americans of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds and in all communities through treatment, education, and prevention programs; and

Whereas, addictive disorders are a treatable disease and treatment of addiction is as successful as the treatment of other chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma; and

Whereas, tens of thousands of addiction-focused health care professionals have dedicated their lives to increasing awareness of alcohol and drug disorders and enhancing the care of individuals, families, and communities through treatment, education and prevention programs; and

Whereas, addiction counselors promote excellence in care by promoting the highest quality and most up-to-date, science-based services to our clients, our families and our communities;
