Description
The Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) is hosting Recovery Walks!, their 8th Annual Walk for Recovery from Alcohol and Other Drug Addiction on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Bushnell Park in Hartford. We strive to mobilize people to support policies that encourage and improve access to recovery and remove barriers to long-term recovery. CCARs Recovery Walks! includes live musical entertainment, childrens activities and stories of recovery beginning at 10:00 am with the 3-mile walk beginning at 12:00 noon. This year our guest speaker will be songwriter/vocalist Paul Williams.

Oxford House is a concept in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. In its simplest form, an Oxford House describes a democratically run, self-supporting and drug free home. Parallel to this concept lies the organizational structure of Oxford House, Inc. Connecticut Recovery Month Proclamation
Description
WHEREAS recovered and recovering alcoholics and addicts are gainfully employed in Connecticut, contribute to the economic productivity of the state and raise healthy families; and,

WHEREAS alcohol and drug abuse is a major public health problem that costs the American people more than $300 billion each year, affecting millions of Americans of all ages, races and ethic backgrounds and in all communities; and,

WHEREAS a large number of citizens of our state suffer from untreated addictive disorders and are isolated from families, friends, meaningful work and a satisfying life; and,

WHEREAS addictive disorders are treatable and treatment of addiction is as successful as the treatment of other chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and asthma; and,

WHEREAS tens of thousands of addiction-focused health care professionals and non professionals have dedicated their lives to increasing awareness of alcohol and drug disorders; enhancing of care of individuals, families and communities through treatment, education and prevention programs: and,

WHEREAS addiction clinicians are uniquely qualified, frontline health care professionals, many of whom are in personal recovery, who are indispensable in the process of guiding people with addictive behaviors to recovery; and

WHEREAS State and National Agencies recognize the importance of celebrating sobriety and ongoing recovery and invite all residents of Connecticut to recognize the month of September as Recovery Month;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jodi M. Rell, Governor of the State of Connecticut, do hereby proclaim, September, 2007

Recovery Month Kick-Off National Survey on Drug Abuse Release -- SAMHSA-Sponsored
Description
The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will unveil the results of the 2006 National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 6. The annual survey, formerly called the Household Survey is the largest of its kind, and is the governments primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco.

The release of the 2006 survey results is the keynote of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference marking a month long observance of the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers.
