$6.3 Million Available to Fund Family and Juvenile Drug Courts
|

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
today announced the availability of FY 2005 funds for family and
juvenile treatment drug courts. These grants will provide funding to be
used by treatment providers and the courts to provide alcohol and drug
treatment, and services to support treatment, including assessment, case
management and program coordination for those in need of treatment drug
court services.
Treatment Drug Courts combine the power of judges and courts with effective treatment services to break the cycle of child abuse, child neglect or criminal behavior; alcohol or drug abuse; and incarceration. Family treatment drug courts provide services to parents who have been charged with child abuse or neglect, as well as to children and other important family members. Juvenile treatment drug courts provide services to juveniles who are found delinquent as well as to parents, siblings, and other family members. It is expected that approximately $6.3 million will be available to fund up to 16 awards. Approximately $3.15 million will provide eight awards for family treatment drug courts and $3.15 million will be available for about eight awards for juvenile treatment drug courts. The maximum allowable award is $400,000 per year for up to three years. The actual award amount may vary, depending on unanticipated program requirements and the number and quality of the applications received. The grants will be awarded by SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) WHO CAN APPLY: Eligible applicants are individual treatment drug courts or state or county court integrated systems as long as all grant funds are dedicated to the individual drug court.
