Daniel McMullen Named SAC of Los Angeles’ Criminal Division

Daniel McMullen has been named Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Criminal Division of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office. Director Robert S. Mueller, III, appointed him to this position to replace SAC Robert B. Loosle, who has been appointed Legal Attaché for the FBI in Mexico City. Most recently, Mr. McMullen served as Chief of Law Enforcement Programs Section of the FBI’s Training Division.

Mr. McMullen entered on duty with the FBI in November 1991. Upon completion of training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, he was assigned to the New Orleans Division, Shreveport resident agency (RA). While in Shreveport, Mr. McMullen investigated general criminal matters and civil rights matters. In 1995, he was transferred to the Los Angeles Division, where he investigated violent crime, organized crime, and drug matters.

In March 1998, Mr. McMullen was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent in the Information Resources Division at FBI Headquarters. He was selected as an Assistant Inspector for the Inspection Division in November 1999. In December 2000, he returned to the Los Angeles Division, where he served as the Supervisory Senior Resident Agent of the Riverside RA. While there, he oversaw violent crime matters and numerous joint agency operations, and managed the Palm Springs and Victorville RAs. He was designated Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the New York Division's Violent Crimes Branch in June 2003. In that capacity, he provided leadership to nine squads consisting of more than one hundred agents and task force members and managed the Brooklyn-Queens RA.

Mr. McMullen returned to FBI Headquarters in October 2004, where he served as Special Assistant to the Assistant Director of the Administrative Services Division and later as Special Assistant to the Executive Assistant Director of the Human Resources Branch. In May 2007, he was assigned as Acting Section Chief for the Law Enforcement Programs Section of the Training Division. His selection was made permanent in August 2007.

Mr. McMullen received a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Texas in Arlington, Texas. He also earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. Prior to joining the FBI, he was a manager for Pepsi-Cola East in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, responsible for providing system support to produce and distribute products and services to customers in the Pepsi-Cola East region, focusing on the efficiency and effectiveness of these processes. He obtained the rank of Captain in the United States Army, served in a variety of leadership positions on Battalion and Corps staffs, and served in a combat environment during Operation JUST CAUSE. Mr. McMullen is a recipient of the 2005 Anti-Defamation League Law Enforcement “Sherwood Prize for Combating Hate” Award.
