SA Barry Lee Bush Recognized as an FBI Service Martyr
The FBI Service
Martyr Review Board has named Special Agent (SA) Barry
Lee Bush as an FBI Service Martyr. SA Bush, a 19-year
veteran of the FBI, was assigned to the FBI Newark Office.
On April 5, 2007, SA Bush was killed while performing
his official law enforcement duties in pursuit of serial
bank robbers. He is the 51st FBI special agent to die
in the line of duty.
On
April 24, 2008, the FBI Newark Office rededicated their building
in honor of SA Bush.
During the ceremony, FBI Director Robert S. Mueller,
III spoke of the service and dedication of heroes such
as Special Agent Bush. He recounted a newspaper story
where a neighbor depicted SA Bush as ‘a regular guy
who did extraordinary things during his FBI career.’ Director
Mueller added, “Barry was a model of everything the
badge should represent. In losing him we have lost
of one the
FBI’s finest agents. But Barry was more than just a
fine agent…we will remember him as a devoted husband,
a loving father, and a loyal friend. We will remember
him as a
committed public servant and a courageous man, who
gave his life doing what he loved most.”
Newark Special
Agent in Charge Weysan Dun said, “Special Agent Barry Lee Bush’s
induction as a member of the Wall of Honor and permanent enshrinement in the
Hall of Honor will ensure we never lose sight of his ultimate sacrifice. He
embraced the values of the FBI and served with honor for nearly 20 years. We
must never
forget our colleagues who give their lives in the performance of duty as we
continue to fulfill the FBI’s mission.”
