FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III, announced the appointment of Joseph Persichini, Jr., a thirty year veteran of the FBI, as Assistant Director in Charge (ADIC) of the FBI’s Washington Field Office. Mr. Persichini has been the Acting ADIC since January 2006. As head of the WFO, he will manage and direct all FBI national security and criminal investigative programs in a territory that includes the District of Columbia and thirteen counties and independent cities in Northern Virginia.

Director Mueller said, “Joe Persichini brings over thirty years of experience and has the skills and vision to lead a diverse group of professionals in one of the FBI’s largest field offices, and I am confident he will help us stay a step ahead of new threats and challenges in the national security and criminal arena.”

Mr. Persichini entered on duty with the FBI as an Accountant in September of 1976 and was assigned to FBI Headquarters, Budget and Accounting Section, conducting cost benefit analyses. Mr. Persichini received his appointment as a Special Agent of the FBI on June 9, 1980, and upon completion of training was assigned to the Alexandria, Virginia, Field Office. He subsequently served in the Denver Field Office and the New York City Field Office.

Mr. Persichini was promoted as Supervisory Special Agent at FBI Headquarters in the Office of Professional Responsibility in March 1988. Mr. Persichini is considered one of the FBI's experts in law enforcement corruption and has been involved in law enforcement corruption training throughout the United States. He was selected to conduct law enforcement training in Moscow, Russia, Bangkok, Thailand, Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Islamabad, Pakistan.

In November, 1996, Mr. Persichini was designated the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Cleveland Field Office with responsibilities for the White Collar Crime, Organized Crime and Drug Programs.

In November of 2002, Mr. Persichini was designated Special Agent in Charge, Administrative Division of the Washington Field Office, with responsibility for all human resources, facilities, technical operations, security, training and budget matters.
