FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III has appointed Jennifer Smith Love, a nineteen-year veteran of the FBI, as the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office (WFO) Criminal Division. As head of the WFO Criminal Division, Ms. Smith Love manages and directs all FBI investigative programs focused on financial crime, violent crime, organized crime, public corruption, violation of individual civil rights, computer crimes, and drug related crime handled in Washington, D.C., and in Northern Virginia.

Ms. Love began her investigative career as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in January 1987. She served in the FBI's New Orleans Field Office, the Chicago Field Office and the Baton Rouge Resident Agency where she investigated White Collar Crime, Violent Crimes and Civil Rights matters. As a street agent in all three offices, Ms. Love was the case agent on numerous public corruption investigations which led to the successful convictions of numerous prominent public officials and police officers.

In 1997, she was appointed Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) in the FBI's Office of Professional Responsibility at FBI Headquarters, where she conducted investigations into allegations of employee misconduct. Two years later, Ms. Love was appointed SSA in the Philadelphia Field Office where she led a White Collar Crime/Computer Intrusions Squad. During her tenure in Philadelphia she oversaw the division's first undercover operation focusing on organized check fraud rings.

In December 2002, she was named Assistant Special Agent in Charge in the Baltimore Field Office where she initially headed the Baltimore Field Office's White Collar Crimes, Civil Rights, Administrative and Surveillance Programs, along with the Annapolis and Wilmington Resident Agencies. She concluded her assignment in Baltimore by being responsible for all of the FBI's criminal violations in the states of Maryland and Delaware.

In January 2005, Ms. Love was promoted to Section Chief in the Counterterrorism Division at FBI Headquarters. In that capacity, she oversaw all administrative functions and programs of the Counterterrorism Division to include the administration of a multimillion budget; employee and information security matters; human capital, training and continuing education initiatives; and human intelligence validation for the FBI's Counterterrorism Program. In April 2006, she was selected as the Section Chief, Communication Exploitation Section, where in concert with the United States Intelligence Community, she led the FBI's efforts to disrupt terrorists' ability to communicate.

A native of the state of Mississippi, Ms. Love is a 1983 graduate of Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Prior to joining the FBI as a Special Agent Accountant, Ms. Love worked as a Cost Accountant with McDonnell Douglas Corporation in St Louis, Missouri.
