Title
Refuge Art Gallery - Series 1: Mad Hatter
Description
Refuge Art Gallery celebrates the work of artists in recovery (AIR). AIR include those individuals actively in the process of recovery from alcohol or drug dependency, mental illness, debilitating disease, or a serious incapacitating injury or trauma.

Typically these artists have survived a living hell. Their art explores life experiences that, while often touching on torment, most frequently celebrate strength, resolve and hope achieved through personal and spiritual growth.

The goal of Refuge is to remedy this by helping these artists attain or regain their full potential within the fine arts world.

Our first exhibit is also our grand opening. Visit www.refuge for complete details.

OUTSIDE THE WALLS: A Celebration of Freedom and Recovery
Description
What better way to kick off a full month of exciting activities than with a full day of gospel celebration on the southwest side of Chicago! Produced in conjunction with several secular and faith based organizations and churches, this event will feature local gospel artists and plenty of free food in a full day of family oriented fun and activities. The twofold objective is to celebrate the lives and newfound freedom of men and women who have paid their debt to society and to promote the reconnection of families once broken due to incarceration. The event was held in conjunction with National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery month at the Ukrainian Cultural Center, located at 2247 W. Chicago Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. Approximately 250-300 were in attendance at this event.

During the event, Healthcare Alternative Systems, Inc. recognized ex-participants who have been living in sobriety and have been role models for society. It was truly an enjoyable and certainly meaningful event. Participants and ex-participants felt acknowledged and proud of their accomplishments, and showed such great appreciation. Antonio Tony Garcia, founder of HAS, was the keynote speaker, and Mr. Steven Guerra, Director of DHS-Division of Community Health & Prevention, attended as guest speaker.
