COUNTY LEGISLATURE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVES START OF SITE WORK NEW, UPGRADED LIVE BURN BUILDING

The Erie County Legislature unanimously approved a contract to proceed with work on building a new live burn building at the Erie County Fire Training Center during a special session September 4.

The County Legislature approved awarding a contract to Weydman Electric and Ed Bauer Construction for the construction of a new live burn building at the Fire Training Center, 3359 Broadway in Cheektowaga, at is special session at the Fire Training Center September 4. The funding was previously authorized in 2007 and will be when the 2008 capital bonds are approved.

"This new live burn building will replace the current structure, which has been condemned, and provide much needed upgraded facilities for our first responders to train and meet the growing needs and requirements of firefighting and serving the public," County Legislator Timothy M. Kennedy (D-South Buffalo) said.

"This is the first phase of improvements to Erie County's fire training facilities, and are needed to continue our efforts to assist first responders in becoming more qualified to protect Erie County residents," County Legislator Daniel M. Kozub (D-Lackawanna) said. "The actual building materials will soon be delivered, so this action will allow for the site work and erecting of the live burn building."

"We have worked hard to provide our volunteer and professional firefighters with updated and necessary equipment to protect our homes, businesses, families and the first providers themselves," County Legislator Timothy M. Wroblewski (D-West Seneca, South Cheektowaga), chair of the Public Safety Committee, said. "Building the new live burn building is a major step toward achieving these goals."
