Mark Segal is the Clinical Director of Co-Occurring Services at Second Genesis. Second Genesis is the oldest and largest provider of therapeutic community services in the mid-Atlantic region. Founded and continuously licensed since 1969 in Alexandria, Virginia, Second Genesis now operates ten treatment centers in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Clients at the Second Genesis co-occurring disorders program live in a safe environment while receiving integrated treatment. The multidisciplinary team includes substance abuse and mental health professionals, a nurse and a vocational counselor. A psychiatrist provides ongoing supervision and medication monitoring. Clients participate in group and individual therapy sessions. Working on jobs in the residence prepares them to live independently. Those who are able, complete a phase of treatment which includes working in the community while residing at the treatment facility.

This unique program is collaboration between Second Genesis and the State of Maryland to provide integrated substance abuse and mental health treatment to an underserved population.
