You can obtain or update a DOT number online at: http://safer.fmcsa.dot.gov
Under "FMCSA Services," click on "FMCSA Registration & Updates"

A US DOT number also can be obtained from the DOT's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration by calling (800) 832-5660.
