GSD's FX-Net Team Receives Fire Weather Honor Award

At the National Predictive Services Annual Meeting, GSD's FX-Net Team received an Honor Award from the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service's Predictive Services Program. The Predictive Services group comprises meteorologists, fire behavior specialists, and fire managers who form a dedicated team focused on fire weather, fire danger, and fire fighting and control resources. Predictive Services meteorologists utilized a variety of sources for weather information. FX-Net is a primary system, used to quickly and easily view satellite imagery, numerical weather models, observations, and radar information. The system displays specialized fire weather data and models used by forecasters to produce fire potential forecasts and guidance products. The system was developed by researchers at NOAA's ESRL/GSD (formerly Forecast Systems Laboratory) in Boulder, Colorado.

Rick Ochoa, National Fire Weather Program Manager, National Interagency Fire Center - Bureau of Land Management described the award as follows:

"The National Predictive Services Group recognizes Sher Schranz, Jebb Stewart, and the FX-Net Team of the NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory, in appreciation for their significant contributions to the Predictive Services Program. FX-Net has proven to be a reliable, cost-effective, and cutting edge system for providing meteorological information to predictive services meteorologists."
