History

The NOAA Pacific Services Center (PSC) was established in 2001 to support the coastal management community in the Pacific Islands. The organization is a collaborative NOAA Ocean Service (NOS) effort that seeks to increase communication among coastal resource managers, increase the skills and tools necessary to create informed decisions, act in the areas of greatest opportunity, and see the results of effective change.

Staff

PSC is staffed by a director, deputy director, coastal hazards specialist, outreach and training coordinator, literacy coordinator, B-WET Hawaii coordinator, spatial technology coordinator, geospatial technicians, management and program analyst, and coastal program specialists. In addition, the office houses representatives from other NOS offices, including the National Geodetic Survey, Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, Office of Response and Restoration, and National Marine Sanctuaries. The NOAA National Weather Service and PSC are co-located, facilitating coordination in programs and administrative duties.

Partner Organizations

PSC determines its activities and carries out its mission most effectively through collaboration with partner organizations. These include coastal resource agencies, natural resource agencies, emergency management agencies, universities, nongovernmental organizations, the private sector, and the shipping and maritime community.

Location and Directions

The NOAA Pacific Services Center is located in the heart of Honolulu's downtown business district. Directions to the office are available for visitors arriving from the airport or from Waikiki.
