Movie Theater Accessibility
The Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities has surveyed movie theaters in New York City for their accessibility. We hope this guide will be of assistance to people with disabilities and their friends and family to enjoy the movies.

Loews E-Walk Theater
247 W 42nd Street & 8th Avenue

  • The accessible route to the second, third, and fourth floor requires the use of an elevator. Travel between floors one, two, and three can be done independently, while access to the fourth floor via the elevator requires the use of a key. Assistance can be obtained at the Guest Services Counter located on the third floor.
  • Accessible seats are located in the middle of the theaters.
  • Restrooms are fully accessible.
  • Companion seating located in every theater.
  • Ticket counters, concession stands, guest services, and the restrooms are universally designed to provide access for all.

Loews Sony Imax Theater
1998 Broadway & 68th Street

  • The accessible route to the upper and lower levels requires the use of an elevator. Travel between ground level and above can be done independently, while access to the lower level via the elevator requires the use of a key. Assistance can be obtained at the Guest Services Counter.
  • Some of the theaters have accessible seating throughout the theater. Others provide accessible seating at the rear only.
  • Restrooms are fully accessible.
  • Companion seating located in every theater.
  • Ticket counters, most concession stands, guest services, and the restrooms are universally designed to allow access for all.

Loews (Below Virgin Mega Store)

  • The accessible route to the ticket counters, concessions, and theaters requires the use of an elevator. Push the call button located next to the elevator for assistance.
  • Restrooms are fully accessible.
  • There is no designated area for accessible seating, however, there is ample room at the rear of the theater.
  • There is no companion seating.

Loews

  • The only accessible seating in the theater is on the balcony level.
  • Restrooms are not accessible.
  • There is no accessible route to the concession stands (lower level).
  • Not all-accessible seats have companion seating.
  • The balcony level contains only two accessible spots.

Loews Coronet 1 & 2
993 3rd Avenue & 59th Street

  • Accessibly theaters are located on the ground level only.
  • There are two accessible seats in the rear of each theater.
  • There is no accessible route to the upper level theaters.
  • While the restroom itself is accessible, there is no accessible route to the bathroom. There are two steps immediately before the restroom and a door that swings open flush to the bottom step.

Loews Orphium

  • The accessible route to levels other than the ground floor requires the use of an elevator. Travel between all floors can be accomplished independently.
  • Accessible seating is located throughout the theaters.
  • Restrooms are fully accessible.
  • Companion seating located in every theater.
  • Ticket counters, concession stands, guest services, and the restrooms are universally designed to provide access for all.

Loews New York Twin

  • The service entrance doubles as the accessible entrance. However, in order to access the service entrance, which is on another side of the building, one must request assistance at the ticket office. To reach the ticket office, it is necessary to descend a flight of stairs. A Loews employee will escort you through the service alleyways and into the theater. The steep ramps may be challenging to navigate.
  • The restrooms are not accessible.
  • There is no accessible seating.

Loews Kips Bay

  • Accessible seating is located in the front, middle, and back of each theater.
  • Companion seating located in every theater next to each accessible seat.
  • Ticket counters, concession stands, guest services, and the restrooms are universally designed to provide access for all.
  • Captioning is available periodically. Call the theater for scheduled times.
  • Restrooms are fully accessible.

  • The elevators to the upper levels can be operated independently.
  • Only the concession stand on the ground level has an accessible counter.
  • Accessible seating is located at the rear of the theater.
  • Companion seating accompanies each accessible seat.
  • Restrooms are partially accessible.

  • Accessible seating is located in the center of the theater.
  • Companion seating accompanies each accessible seat.
  • The accessible route to the lower level requires the use of an elevator that can not be operated independently. Ask at the ticket office (located on the ground floor) for assistance.
  • Access to goods and services are restricted to the lower level only.
  • There are six steps separating the lower level from the upper. While the elevator allows one access to the lower level, there is no accessible route to the upper section.
  • While the men’s restroom is located on the upper level, there is a separate accessible restroom on the lower level. This restroom requires a key to access. For assistance, contact a Loews employee.
  • The accessible stall in the women’s restroom also requires a key to access. For assistance, contact a Loews employee.
  • Though there is a concession stand on the lower level, it is not always open.
  • On the upper level, there is a small step to enter the men’s restroom, no more than 3 inches high.
  • Concession purchases on the lower level can be conducted next to the concession stand employee entrance.
  • The concession stands on the upper level are not accessible.

Lincoln Plaza Cinemas
1886 Broadway Between 62nd & 63rd Street

  • This theater predominantly shows classics.
  • The accessible route requires the use of an elevator that can not be used independently. Ask at the ticket office for assistance.
  • Restrooms are fully accessible.
  • Accessible seating is located at the rear of the theater. There is a slight incline to access this area.
  • Companion seating accompanies all accessible seat.
  • The concession stands are not accessible. Ask an employee for assistance.

City Cinemas East 86th Street Cinemas
210 East 86th Street & 3rd Avenue

  • There are no railings on the sides of the ramp at the entrance of the building.
  • Accessible seating is located in the center of the theaters.
  • Chairs without armrests are also available throughout each theater.
  • Restrooms are fully accessible.
  • Companion seating located in every theater.
  • Ticket counters, some concession stands and restrooms are universally designed to provide access for all.
  • While the concession stand allows access for all, the condiment bar is high.
  • On the upper level, the concession stand can only be accessed by descending six steps. Use the main level to make concession purchases.

City Cinemas Sutton 1 & 2
205 East 57th Street, Between 2nd & 3rd Avenue

  • Only one of the two theaters are accessible (One is accessed by a ramp, while the other requires the use of stairs).
  • Concession purchases can be conducted next to the concession stand.
  • Restrooms are fully accessible.
  • Currently, there is no designated area for accessible seating. However, the very front of the theater can be used for this purpose. Thus, there is no companion seating at this time.
  • Plans are underway to create accessible seating at the rear of the theater.

City Cinemas East Side Playhouse
919 3rd Avenue, Between East 55 & East 56th Street  

  • There is only one theater in the building.
  • This theater predominantly shows foreign films.
  • To access the building, one should approach from the north side on East 56th Street, in which there’s a slow sloping ramp. Otherwise, it is necessary to ascend two stairs.
  • Restrooms are fully accessible.
  • The theater only contains one accessible seat, partitioned off from the main section of seats.
  • There is no companion seating in the theater.
  • High counters at the concession stand may cause some trouble in making purchases. Ask an employee for assistance.

City Cinemas Village East Cinemas
181-189 2nd Avenue & 12th Street

  • The accessible route requires the use of an elevator that can not be used independently. Ask at the ticket office for assistance.
  • A separate path is also required in order to access the individual theaters.
  • There are no designated accessible areas in any theater. However, in each theater there is enough room to sit either in the aisle or towards the back. In the largest theater, the unofficial accessible seating area is in the very front of the theater. Thus, there is no companion seating.
  • Restrooms are partially accessible on the lower level.
  • Concession stands have a lowered accessible section.

  • Restrooms are partially accessible.
  • Not all accessible seat has companion seating.

  • Though there are two steps to access the theater, there is an alternate accessible route. The alternate accessible route located on the side entrance of the theatre can not be accessed without assistance. Ask at the ticket office for assistance.
  • Though the restrooms can only accessed by ascending a flight of stairs, a fully accessible bathroom is currently being built on the main floor.
  • Only one of the two theaters is accessible (lower level).
  • Because only one theater is accessible, the viewing location alternates between theaters. Call the box office for scheduling information.
  • Though there is no designated area for accessible seating, the rear or aisles can be used for this purpose.
  • High counters at the concession stand may cause some trouble in making purchases. Ask an employee for assistance.

Clearview Cinemas Ziegfield

  • Not at all accessible.

Clearview Cinemas 62nd & Broadway Theater

  • Restrooms are fully accessible.
  • There is no designated area for accessible seating. However, one can sit in the rear of the theater or in the aisles.
  • High counters at the concession stand may cause some trouble in making purchases. Ask an employee for assistance.

Clearview Cinemas

  • Only one of the two theaters are accessible.
  • In order to access the restrooms, one must ascend a flight of stairs. There is no alternate route to the restrooms. Thus, the restrooms are inaccessible.
  • There is no designated area for accessible seating. However, the rear and aisles can be used for this purpose.
  • High counters at the concession stand may cause some trouble in making purchases. Ask an employee for assistance.

Clearview Cinemas Chelsea
West 333 W 23rd Street, Between 7th and 8th Avenue

  • Restroom is partially accessible. To access the restroom a lift is provided for the patron with the assistance from one of the workers at the theater.
  • Only one of the two theaters are accessible.
  • Because only one theater is accessible, the viewing location alternates between theaters. Call the box office for scheduling information.
  • Accessible seating throughout the theater.
  • There is a ramp that provides access into the theater but there is no railing provided on either side of the ramp.

Clearview Cinemas Chelsea

  • This movie theater consists of nine theatres that are fully accessible.
  • The elevator to the upper levels can be operated independently.
  • Accessible seats are located in the rear of the theater.
  • Companion seating accompanies each accessible seat.
  • Restrooms are fully accessible.
  • Concession stands have a high accessible section. However, ask an employee for assistance.

  • The accessible route to the upper level of the theater requires the use of an elevator that is located outside next to the ticket counter. Ask at the ticket counter for assistance.
  • Accessible seats are located at the rear of the theater.

  • Restrooms are fully accessible.
  • Counters at the concession and condiment stand are high. Ask an employee for assistance.

Clearview Cinemas Beekman

  • Restrooms are accessible.

  • Lower telephones and drinking fountains are provided throughout the theater.
  • Accessible seats are located in the rear of every theater.

  • Only the ground theater provides an accessible emergency exit.

  • Companion seating located in every theater next to each accessible seat.
  • Restrooms are fully accessible.
  • The ticket counter and the concession stand are accessible.
  • Discounts are provided for senior citizens and people with disabilities. Ask managers for details.

Screening Room Dinner & Movie

  • Not fully accessible.
  • There is a ramp provided at the entrance to the theater.
  • The accessible route into the first theater requires you to enter though the sidewalk. Employees will assist you.
  • The accessible route into the second theater requires travel through the restaurant.
  • There is an accessible restroom located in the back of the restaurant.
  • Accessible seats are located in the rear of the theater.
  • There is no companion seating in the theater.
  • To reach the ticket counter, it is necessary to descend a flight of stairs. Screening Room employees will assistance you with purchasing ticket.
