FGDC Marine Boundary Working Group

Welcome to the Federal Geographic Data Committee's Marine Boundary Working Group Web site. The working group was formed in 2001 to address a number of issues pertaining to legal and technical aspects of marine or maritime boundaries. Many government agencies are working together and combining their talents, expertise, and resources through the FGDC Marine Boundary Working Group. The working group is co-chaired by the Minerals Management Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The objectives of the working group are to:

  • develop standardized methodologies and best practices to produce better marine boundary data
  • standardize the legal, scientific, and technical terms used to better describe marine boundaries
  • work together to maximize resources and avoid duplication of effort
  • create dissemination mechanisms for marine boundary data
