FTA implements various planning-related programs to support transit.
- Private Enterprise Participation – Describes how private businesses can get involved in planning and delivering public transportation services.
- Public Transportation Participation Pilot Program – A new pilot program created under SAFETEA-LU to develop innovative approaches to improving public participation in the planning of public transportation.
- Transit-Oriented Development & Joint Development – expanded information on how to maximize transit investments in your community!
- Transportation Planning Capacity Building Program – jointly administered by FTA & FHWA, this comprehensive program for training, technical assistance, and support is targeted to state, local, regional, and tribal governments, transit operators, and community leaders.
- Transportation Planning Excellence Awards – to recognize outstanding initiatives, in partnership with FHWA and APA.
- Travel Model Improvement Program – a joint effort among FTA, FHWA, and US EPA to improve local agencies' technical capacity to to inform their decision makers on how growth in population and employment, development patterns, and investments in transportation infrastructure are likely to affect travel, congestion, air quality, and quality of life.
